 Lesson #2  Tell someone about the news My aunt meets hurricane Julia Hurricane Julia hit Colombia in October 2022. My aunt Dina was at her home in San Andres when the hurricane left her without a roof. She said she was very scared because her roof was blown off. My aunt and my cousin locked themselves in their room along with two of her other friends until the storm passed. When she turned on the TV the reports said that a tropical cyclone became a category 1 hurricane, they said that only 2 people were injured, 2 houses were destroyed and 101 were damaged. History of natural disaster in Colombia The Eje Cafetero earthquake occurred on January 25, 1999 and greatly affected the departments of Quindío and Risaralda, where approximately 1,000 of their inhabitants lost their lives. This figure increased with the first aftershock, where an undetermined number of people died while trying to rescue their property from the semi-destroyed structures. Added to this were deaths caused by vandals, attacks on shops and houses, and fights over food, water and shelter, leaving an approximate number of 2,000 deaths in total. Nearly 4,000 people were injured and around 500 were reported missing. As the disaster destroyed the main control and aid structures in the city of Armenia (the police headquarters collapsed immediately, as well as the fire station, the Office of Forensic Medicine and the Civil Defense) there were no means for proper reporting and Good casualty count.
